ABV has represented clients from a wide range of nations, including Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Peru, Poland, Scotland, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and Venezuela, with respect to litigation and corporate matters pending in or affected by the law of the United States, as well as in arbitration before the International Chamber of Commerce. We have also served as special counsel to the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

In some instances, the firm has handled matters that are primarily domestic in nature, but that involve one or more international clients. In other cases, the firm has represented clients with respect to matters pending abroad where the client required the focused involvement of United States counsel, whether to pursue assets based in the United States, to obtain discovery of information or testimony from witnesses available here, or to conduct litigation in support of legal proceedings elsewhere. In still other situations, the firm has been retained to engage in full-blown arbitration proceedings abroad. The firm’s attorneys also have wide experience providing estate planning and administration for international individuals and families. In all instances, ABV is committed to providing foreign clients with clear and realistic assessments of legal processes in the United States, to coordinating effectively with counsel based abroad, and to working efficiently across large distances and multiple time zones.

ABV’s wide international experience also leads clients to seek the firm’s assistance with respect to a range of legal needs abroad. Often, clients look to us for referrals to professionals in other countries. Other times, even as clients retain counsel abroad, we are asked to act as a kind of “general counsel” or “quarterback” coordinating with foreign counsel.
